Work in the cold

The objective of this task is to gain knowledge on how the interaction between environmental exposure, clothing, work load, and physiological regulatory system affect the worker. Limit values for specific work tasks and activities relevant for offshore activities in the High North will be established through:

a) Objective assessment of the environmental cold exposure and chilling effect
b) Establishment of threshold values for thermal comfort, manual performance and cognitive performance for specified activities in cold and wet environment
c) Quantification of body heat production and temperature distribution (based upon measurement of heat production in field and laboratory);
d) Calculation of requirements on insulation, moisture transport and freedom of movement.

The results from this task will be used as guidelines for the exploration of new materials and the development new sensor solutions.
