A microgrid’s ability to transition to and from island mode is crucial.

CINELDI and Skagerak Nett are piloting both planned and unplanned transitions at Skagerak Energilab. The lab is ideal for this sort of testing as it’s connected to Skagerak Nett’s grid, and can be run as a microgrid due to its 1,1 MWh battery system.

The pilot is considered a success if the customers are unaffected by the transition and Skagerak Nett avoids CENS (cost of energy not supplied). The first planned test was performed in September 2020, and preliminary results indicate no customers were affected.
