Knowledge-building projects with user involvement

Knowledge-building projects with user involvement (KMB - Kompetanseoppbygging Med Brukermedvirkning)

  • The Research Council of Norway supports our project about knowledge-building regarding questions on CO2 underground storage and use of CO2 in EOR.
  • It is required that 20% of the funding will come from the industry and 80% from The Research Council of Norway.
  • It is required that two PhD students will be educated within the framework of this project.

KMB CO2 main objectives

  • Develop a methodology to determine the optimal strategy for CO2 injection in oil reservoirs with respect to increased oil recovery, utilisation of CO2 storage capacity and project economy.
  • Develop a methodology to determine the storage capacity, residence time and relevant safety aspects related to CO2 storage in aquifers in a given region in order to avoid risks and to minimise the deposition and storage costs.
  • Describe an integrated solution for CO2 injection in oil reservoirs and aquifers in order to solve the potential problem of CO2 contamination in produced HC gas and to increase the deposition capacity of CO2 in a given oil province.
  • Study the possibility to use CO2 mixed with other gas components as injection gas for EOR or storage.
