The SINTEF Group is the largest independent research organisation in Scandinavia. Annually, SINTEF supports the development of 2000 or so Norwegian and overseas companies via our research and development activity.

SINTEF Industrial Management, Operations Management group

Manufacturing and logistics are essential activities in business and industry, and constitute a considerable part of today’s value creation. Critical elements in maximising this value creation include continuous efforts to improve the flow of goods and information within companies and across value chains, and ensuring the best fit between market requirements and company business models.

The research areas of the Operations Management group embrace the areas of

  • Logistics
  • Business development

The group conducts research and development both in individual companies and in entire supply chains, with particular focus on the following areas:

  • Design of global supply chains
  • Control models for supply chains and manufacturing companies
  • Use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in logistics
  • Business models and strategy development

Our ambition is to be the leading national research group within our area, and to continue to improve our international recognition.

SINTEF Transport Research

The transport system must be safe, secure and efficient. In addition there should be no pollution to the environment. We seek to solve problems related to both safety and the flow of passenger- and goods transport. We apply driving simulators, instrumented vehicles and laboratories with advanced simulation models to find the best, safest and most effective transport solutions.

The department workswith all transport modes, human and goods. Our research activities are carried out locally, nationally and internationally. Development of planning tools is an important activity, done through tight co-operation between road and transport planners and system developers. Through the “Gemini-cooperation” labor and laboratories are exchanged with NTNU. SINTEF takes part in the education of students and PhD candidates, and the university contributes in SINTEF research projects.

SINTEF Applied Economics
