SINTEF Petroleum Research Multiphase Transport and Flow Assurance
Multiphase transport and flow assurance
SINTEF has been a key research partner ever since oil and gas exploitation began on the Norwegian shelf 50 years ago. We have expertise across the entire value chain, from exploration to production and the storage of CO2. We perform research, development and consultancy for industrial challenges on multiphase flows and flow assurance. To ensure safe and economical oil and gas transport from the reservoir to point of sale, we validate technology by combining experimental work in different scales with model development and numerical simulation.
Direct Electrical Heating of Flowlines (DEH)
Hydrate and wax formation in subsea transport flowlines will cause undesired fluid properties and even blocking of the wellstream, following shutdown and comprehensive repairs. Direct electrical heating (DEH) is developed as a method for avoiding hydrates and wax, and is also applicable for removal of plugs.
DeFACTO - Demonstration of Flow Assurance for CO2 Transport Operations
Provide technology development and demonstration that enable improved large-scale CO2 transport and injection.
Enabling Low-Emission LNG Systems
It is essential for improving the existing units and processes, or developing new and more efficient ones, to have a thorough insight in the underlying physical behaviour of the fluid streams involved. Hence, fundamentals for multilevel modelling of LNG processes are directly linked to the development of low-emission LNG plants.
Lab results could improve offshore production economics
Norwegian laboratory tests show that gas wells can continue to be productive longer than we predicted, before they need expensive “anti-ageing” support.
Groundbreaking Industrial Project in the Multiphase Flow Laboratories at SINTEF og IFE
SINTEF Petroleum Research and Institutt for Energiteknikk (IFE) have entered into agreement with seven companies on a new and exciting data collection project. The recently upgraded laboratories at Tiller and Kjeller now go directly into industrial use.
SINTEF Multiphase Flow Laboratory joins in new national infrastructure
The Research Council of Norway recently awarded IFE and SINTEF 40 million NOK to upgrade their multiphase flow laboratories. This marks the beginning of a new era within multiphase flow research in Norway and a re-vitalized collaboration between IFE and SINTEF.
