All questions on registration, payment, accommodation, travel arrangements and social events must be directed to VIA Travel Group & Meeting.
You may download Visit Tromsø's city maps (2 pages, some 10 MB) here.
Tromsø airport Langnes is just 5 km away from the city center. You have to organize the transfer yourself. The airport bus to the center leaves every 30-40 minutes and costs NOK 55. There is a monitor with the schedule in the baggage claim area. There ar stops close to the main hotels. The last stop (some 15 minutes) is Rica Ishavshotel. A taxi will set you back NOK 120-150. See the airport web pages for further information and bus schedule, or contact our partner VIA Travel Group & Meeting for special requests.
Some security workers are currently on strike. This means delays in airport security control, while flights are generally not delayed. You should add extra slack, and not waste time during transfer. For general information, seehttp://www.avinor.no/en/avinor For Oslo Airport Gardermoen (delays):http://www.osl.no/en/osl
For your transfer in Oslo you need to pick up your baggage, go through customs, then go up one floor to the departure area to check in for your domestic flight and go through security. Distances are small. There are check-in automats and fast baggage drop for most airlines.

Tromsø is at close to 70 degrees North, the same latitude as parts of the Northern coast of Alaska. The Gulf Stream helps, but there are limits ... YOU NEED TO BRING WARM CLOTHES AND GOOD FOOTWEAR. Early summer evenings and even days might be quite chilly in northern Norway. A jacket for wind and rain is a must. Gloves, hat, and a scarf would also be good to have. Consider bringing long, wool underwear and a wool sweater/fleece if you want to spend a few hours outside. Remember that the weather can change quickly in Northern Norway. Bring a swimming costume for the excursion if you want to use the hot tub or swim in Arctic waters. The nights will not be very dark. Although the curtains in your room should be good, bring a sleeping mask to be on the safe side.
For those of you that will go fishing or mountain hiking on Tuesday evening: It is particularly important that you have warm clothes and appropriate footwear. For the mountain hiking trip, you need mountain boots. Both the fishing and mountain hiking groups will depart from the reception of Rica Ishavshotel at 1800 hrs. Please be there on time. FOR DETAILS, CONTACT VIA Travel Group & Meeting, NOT THE ORGANIZING COMMITTEE.
The long term weather forecast is not particularly encouraging. It says 8 degrees Celsius and some rain for Sunday, and similar weather for the next few days. The forecast is quite uncertain, so it may well change for the better. You may follow the forecast at http://www.yr.no/place/Norway/Troms/Tromsø/Tromsø/long.html The most important parts of it are in English. We are looking forward to seeing you all soon!
