Characterisation of Ashes from Two Agricultural Residues

Sammendrag

The ashes from the two agricultural residues barley
straw and barley husk were characterized by applying a
combination of different analytical methods. The two ashes are
rich in K, Si, P, Ca, K with small amounts of Mg, Al, S and Cl. K
bearing silicates and phosphates mineral phases were identified
by XRD analysis. The two ashes were characterized by low
melting temperature (below 1000 °C). SEM-EDX analyses
revealed the melting behavior of the two ashes into a
homogeneous structure and the trapping of sand/soil particles in
the melts. The formation and melting of K-silicates and Kphosphates
are the main responsible for severe fusion of the two
ashes.
