Drying out capacity and snow melting risk for ventilated wooden roofs - a parameter study

Sammendrag

Experimental testing of rain tightness of wind barrier and sealing of window joints is performed. The
testing is done according to EN 1027 Windows and doors – Watertightness – Test method. Three different
wind barrier materials are tested; asphalt impregnated porous fibreboard, gypsum board and flexible
sheets of nonwoven spun bond plastics. Several materials for sealing of window joints are tested; strips of
breather membrane clamped with battens, different kinds of adhesive tape and adhesive strips of spun bond
plastics, sealing compound, polyurethane foam and self expanded sealing strips. The tests are done with
the window frame mounted in different depths in the timber frame section.
The wind barrier materials tested was rain tight at minimum 300 Pa pressure difference when assembled
as recommended in SINTEF design sheet.
Sealing of window joints with various products with strips of spun bond plastics with adhesive tape and
adhesive bitumen membrane was rain tight at 600 Pa and gave the best protection against water
penetration.
