Materials Testing Laboratory

Materials testing from nano-scale to large-scale

Corrosion fatigue

  • Multi-specimen fatigue testing
    - 10 parallell specimens (seawater, CO2, H2S etc.)
  • High temperature/pressure autoclave
    - 1-2 specimens in titanium chamber (seawater, CO2, H2S etc.)
    - Pressure up to 30 bar
    - Temperature up to 150 deg. C
  • Full-scale crack growth tests in pipes
    - Corrosion, temp, high and low cycle fatigue, reeling simulation

Large-scale testing of pipes

  • Combined internal pressure and bending
  • 5 test rigs for full-scale resonant fatigue
    - 4” to 40” OD
    - Internal pressure up to 700 bar (10,150 psi)

Small-scale tests and standardized materials testing

  • Fracture mechanics and tensile tests
  • Failure assessments/failure characterization

Nano-mechanical materials testing

  • Local material properties by nano indentation
