How to achieve better energy utilization out of waste in the future?
CenBio / SINTEF Energy senior researcher Michael Becidan explains the main conclusions of a recent CenBio journal publication in Chemical Engineering Transactions, "Norwegian Waste-to-Energy (WtE) in 2030: Challenges and opportunities".
CenBio industry partners from Hafslund ASA, Statkraft Varme AS, EGE Oslo AS and Energos AS actively contributed as authors of the publication.
Timely expert advice to better fire your woodstove
SINTEF Energy Research / CenBio researchers Øyvind Skreiberg and Morten Seljeskog have 25 years of experience in wood combustion and are frequently used as advisors for Norwegian woodstoves. Here are their latest contributions to the Norwegian media:
CenBio goes to EUBCE 2016
The European Biomass Conference and Exhibition (EUBCE) Europe's largest international conference focused on biomass. It combines a highly respected international scientific conference with an industrial exhibition and gathers participants from research, industry, policy and business of biomass.
CenBio will send a large delegation to EUBCE:
CenBio members sent 24 abstracts to the conference! Now, we are eager to hear the feedback from the EUBCE scientific committee.
Bellona and SINTEF arrange the Bioforum with focus on carbon-negative solution
Bellona and SINTEF arrange on 16 November in Oslo the Bioforum focusing on carbon-negative solutions, including Bio-CCS: the combination of sustainable biomass with carbon capture and storage.
CenBio Strategic Days 2015
CenBio research- and user partners were invited to the CenBio Startegic Days in Trondheim on 28-29 October.
On Day 1, the participants visited the entrained flow gasifier in the new SINTEF Energy Lab (Blaklia), then headed to the Statkraft Varme Waste-to-Energy facility in Heimdal.
On Day 2, discussions took place on the Annual Work Plan 2016, the final operating year of CenBio. Results from SP6 - Value Chain Assessments - were also extensively presented.
Report on the last CenBio Workshop now available
CenBio arranged a Workshop in Gardemoen on 22 September 2015, focusing on sustainability and energy efficiency in bioenergy production.
The report of the CenBio Workshop is now available here.

Best Paper Award of the 22nd FBC goes to a CenBio publication from Vattenfall!
Håkan Kassman (Vattenfall AB) and Lars-Erik Åmand (Chalmers University) received the Best Paper Award at the 22nd International Conference on Fluidized Bed Conversion (14-17 June 2015, Turku, Finland).
The paper is entitled: "Aspects on the flue gas chemistry of KCl, NO and CO during injection of ammonium sulphate – An experimental approach". More info here.
CenBio Workshop on sustainability and energy efficiency in bioenergy production
CenBio arranges a workshop focusing on sustainability and energy efficiency in bioenergy production (see Agenda). Key speakers include representatives from both industry and R&D covering the entire value chain. The presentations will give an introduction to:
• Sustainability and energy efficiency strategies and objectives• How the stakeholders are working towards the objectives• How the work is funded• What they have achieved during the past years.
There will be time for discussions where the ambition is to get answers to how the strategic and political objectives can be achieved as well as how the individual stakeholders can contribute. Members of industry and R&D sector are invited to contribute to effective and constructive discussions about sustainable and energy efficient bioenergy.
The event will take place on 22 Sept. 2015 at Gardermoen (Park Inn).
The registration is free and open. Please register before 2015-09-11.
EUBCE 2016: Call for abstracts is now open!
The European Biomass Conference and Exhibition (EUBCE) is a world class annual event which, since 1980, is held at different venues throughout Europe.
It is Europe's largest international conference focused on biomass combining a highly-respected international scientific conference with an industrial exhibition and gathers participants from research, industry, policy and business of biomass.
The call for abstracts is now open, with deadline on 30 October 2015.
CenBio – Bioenergy Innovation Centre – organizes the third edition of the CenBio Strategic Days on 28-29 October 2015 in Trondheim. Save the dates!
All CenBio research- and user partners are kindly invited. Registration will open soon.
Proposed agenda for this year:
