The Great Outdoors. The power of algorithms

Abstract

Facebook is the most used website in Norway. Over 85 percent use Facebook, most of them on a daily basis. In comparison –, only 62 percent of Americans used Facebook in 2017.

So, no wonder why we Norwegians could feel familiar with all the various conversations on social media that we all experienced yesterday in "the great outdoors".
But are we aware of this digital addiction, and do we know how the digital society affect us as human on a short and long-term basis?
Are we still humans or are we cyborgs that are totally dependent on our digital screens? And how do algorithms affect us and the society we live in?
Do we know how the algorithms works, or is it like the black box placed in in the middle of the room yesterday? How do we know that algorithms are fair?
