Ultrasonic Wireless Airflow Sensing in Underground Platinum Mines

Abstract

This paper describes the design, implementation and test results of a battery-operated wireless airflow sensor for use in mining applications. The sensor uses ultrasonic transducers for flow estimation and the ISA100 standard for wireless communication. The work demonstrates the feasibility of the solution and identifies the remaining work needed to obtain a commercial product
