Suicide prevention in Vestland county

The main aim of the project is to provide Vestland County Council with a summary of figures and existing knowledge about suicide prevention which will form the basis for considering measures aimed at specific groups in the county.

The knowledge base provided in this project will the following three main elements:

  1. Statistics on how many, and who (cf. background variables below) have taken their own lives in Vestland, including an estimate of the number of suicides with a link to traffic statistics, drowning statistics and accident statistics. Current background variables will be: gender, age, education, occupational group, socio-economic status (income), civil status, geographical area, method of suicide.
  2. Qualitative analyzes of national knowledge about trends and dark numbers in the statistics (mørketall).
  3. Overview of regional and municipal measures that have proven to be effective in suicide prevention. Of particular interest is the connection to arenas where the county council has a means of action.
