This Joint Industry Project (JIP) aims to provide validated analysis procedures and methods for:

  1. Structural damping estimation for complex umbilical and cable cross-sections.
  2. Application of physically correct structural damping mechanism in VIV response predictions.
  3. Application of physically correct structural damping mechanism in evaluation of interference/clashing between umbilicals, cables and flexible pipes in deep water developments.

The structural damping estimation methods and procedures are to be validated by comparison with full scale test results. For activities a) and b), the focus is on umbilical and cable cross sections. The main principles to be developed are considered relevant also for flexible pipes.
