Advanced materials characterisation - Laboratory
The advanced materials characterization laboratory in Oslo develops techniques and makes use of advanced experimental facilities within the national infrastructure centers NORTEM, NICE, and NORFAB. It also employs modeling frameworks utilizing the supercomputer infrastructure in SIGMA2, as well as fundamental materials competence. This combined approach allows for determination of structure, chemistry and materials response from the atomic to millimeter scale.
We offer laboratory and field testing services in addition to contract research and development. Our laboratories are equipped with modern instruments for coating testing and characterization. Additionally, we have access to a wide range of advanced methods and equipment for coating and surface characterization within the SINTEF group.
Degradation studies of solvents
Solvent studies is essential in the work with developing post combustion CO2 capture technologies. Solvent degradation may lead to a significant loss of solvent performance (solvent losses, corrosion problems etc.) and also lead to a negative environmental impact (emissions to air, production of special waste).
Fermentation laboratory at SINTEF
SINTEF has a nationally leading research laboratory for development of microbial and cell based production processes. The laboratory has robotic equipment for miniaturized cultivation, large capacity incubators for shake flasks, laboratory fermentors (1-3 L) equipped for extensive process control and monitoring, and a pilot plant with two fermenters (50 and 300 L) for scale-up studies and small productions.
Foundry and Forming laboratory
In our fully equipped foundry laboratory we work with casting and melt treatment of metals such as aluminium, iron, steel, titanium, magnesium and copper based alloys. We design and produce models for shaped castings, and have a moulding line and a core shooter to produce sand moulds. In addition, we have the possibility to do advanced modelling to optimize gating and feeding systems.
High Throughput laboratory - Oslo
The High Throughput laboratory can be divided in three main activates: 1) design and construction of high-throughput equipment, 2) parallel synthesis of materials, and 3) parallel screening of materials properties. We provide automated custom made high precisions equipment for a wide range of applications. Development and application of combinatorial and parallel approaches are used to accelerate the research and development of a large number of industrially relevant processes.
