Laboratory for Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy
NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) spectroscopy is essential i many fields of research and science like e.g. chemistry, physics, biochemistry, and medicine. The method exploits the magnetic properties of the atomic nuclei and depending upon usage NMR methods may give information about structure, dynamics, and chemical surroundings of atoms, molecules and solid matter.
Laboratory for production and testing of polymer membranes
SINTEF has a broad range of facilities to test membranes and modules from laboratory scale to pilot scale. Membrane technology is environmentally friendly and one of the most promising future separation technologies, especially for CO2 capture since no chemicals involved, no secondary pollutants are emitted from the capture plant. Compact membrane modules and simple process can offer a small footprint, low capital and operation cost, but also operation flexibility and simple up- and down- scaling.
Laboratory for solvent characterization and phase equilibrium measurements
The laboratory performs measurements of thermodynamic properties for solvents used for purification of various industrial gases. This includes phase equilibria, solubility of CO2, H2S and hydrocarbons in different solutions, reaction enthalpy, specific heat capacity and thermal conductivity. In addition, reaction kinetics for CO2 and physical properties, like viscosity and density, are measured for different solvents.
Metallographic characterization laboratory
In the characterization laboratory we have strong expertise in metallographic characterization of steel, aluminum and other metals and alloys. The laboratory is located very close to the mechanical/fracture mechanical laboratory, the corrosion laboratory (CorLab), the welding laboratory and the workshop.
