Human factors

We study and improve the human contribution in safe and reliable production systems, products and services. Key areas are human reliability, organisational factors and man-machine interaction.

It is generally accepted that the human factor is vital for safety and reliability. Research has also shown the importance of organisational factors for human reliability. We strive to exploit the variety of competence within SINTEF and NTNU. This makes us able to perform high-quality studies and improvement projects. The success of such projects requires tight collaboration with operators and their managers.

Through 20 years of work within this area, SINTEF has accumulated experience within areas like

  • Occupational accidents
  • Major accidents
  • Analysis of human reliability
  • Development of methods
  • Development of operation procedures
  • Evaluation of man-machine interface
  • Organisational factors
