Welcome to Trondheim

The atmosphere and possibilities inherent in a small city mean that as a guest you can do a lot within a short space of time. You can experience this small-town charm with Midtbyen, Bakklandet, the culinary city Trondheim and a rich restaurant scene. If you arrive Trondheim early on May 17th, you will have the opportunity of experiencing the celebration of Norway's Constitution Day.

Trondheim's proud and important history has helped setting the agenda for the tremendous development the city has experienced. The name Trondheim derives from the old Norse Þróndheimr, meaning home of the strong and fertile ones. The city was founded by Viking King Olav Tryggvason in AD 997, and occupies a special place in Norwegian culture and history. Trondheim was the nation's first capital and continues to be the coronation city where Norway's kings have been hailed, crowned and blessed. Trondheim is the third largest city in Norway with about 200,000 inhabitants.

Local collaboration partners

The Municipality and City of Trondheim, is an active municipality developing, testing and implementing technology products and services in collaboration with research institutes, industry and other municipalities. The Mayor of Trondheim will host a welcome reception for the conference participants.

The host organization SINTEF is the largest independent research organization in Scandinavia. SINTEF creates value and innovation through knowledge generation and development of technological solutions that are brought into practical use. SINTEF employs 2,000 staff from 75 different countries. SINTEF's vision is: Technology for a better society.

NTNU, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, has the main responsibility for higher education in technology in Norway, and NTNU is Norway´s largest university with more than 40,000 students and 7,130 full-time equivalents. The University also educates architects, designers, social scientists and health care personnel. NTNU has a broad international focus with headquarter in Trondheim, Norway, and offices in Japan and Brussels. NTNU's vision is: Knowledge for a better world

St. Olav's hospital, Trondheim University Hospital, is one of Europe's most modern hospitals. It serves an area in Central Norway with about 700,000 inhabitants. St. Olav's hospital is integrated with NTNU. Patient treatment, research and education are integrated functions. Researchers from SINTEF also work closely with clinicians in the hospital developing new products, procedures etc.

Atlantic MICE is a professional conference organizer (PCO) which handles the practical details about the conference.


Clarion Hotel & Congress is the conference venue. It is situated by the fjord and in walking distance from the city centre. The hotel has 400 rooms including standard and superior rooms as well as suites. The conference capacity in one hall is 1,800 persons. The exhibition space including the lobby is about 1,040 square meters.
