Safety and security
Safety, information security, and identity and trust management are becoming increasingly important in response to the accelerated use of ICT-based control systems and distributed services, and the increased exchange of sensitive information. People expect ICT-based systems to be safe and secure. However, the complexity of our systems renders total safety and security impossible.
Alternative Railway Electrification in Norway
As many European countries, Norway has still a significant length of non-electrified railways. New technologies like hydrogen fuel cells and batteries can be a better option than expensive catenary lines.
ADAPT develops and evaluates technology for assessing fall risks among seniors.
FARSEEING develops and evaluates technology for preventing fall-related incidents among seniors. Falls are the largest cause of injury among elderly in the western world. More than half of seniors above 80 years old fall at least once every year. In Norway alone there are more than 9 000 incidents of hip fracture every year. This means one hip fracture every hour. Mental, social and economic costs of falls are enormous. In FARSEEING we ask ourselves: Can ICT help prevent some of these falls? What are the best technologies, and what is the effect of these technologies?
Good or bad innovation ideas?
The traditional way of running a project with a beginning and an end will soon be history. The scientists have a smarter solution.
Self-training to discourage the jobless from returning to the benefits system
Unemployed people who have spent long periods on benefit become passive, and surrender responsibility for their situation to others. Research is now being carried out to develop a system to help them obtain a sense of empowerment.
