Vegard Brøtan

Research Manager

Vegard Brøtan is head of the Additive Manufacturing (AM) group in SINTEF Manufacturing. He contributes in projects on all parts of the TRL-scale in metal AM. Vegard heads the reasercher-project LAMMO3D, constructing a new multi-material AM-process using electrostatics and lasers. He also coordinates an EU-proj. that builds aerospace parts applying robot control, six position controlled lasers and wire. The AM group works with a large set of metallic materials.

Education

His background is from a master's degree in sensor based deep turning at NTNU together with Sandvik and GKN Aerospace (2010). From mid-2010 his focus was on Powder Bed Fusion (PBF), and early in 2015 he got his PhD on hybrid use of PBF at NTNU (2015). After this, Vegard has been applying PBF and Directed Energy Deposition for development within many material systems and prototypes for industrial use. These uses include tooling for molding and casting, offshore, maritime, aerospace and automotive
