Small cultural houses are normally envisioned to be used for all kind of performances, from classical concerts through theater and cinema-use to rock concerts. At least in Finland the acoustic consultant is normally called in at a rather early stage in the process. However all the other design fields essential for making a well functional multi-function space are either not involved in the design process at all or only at a very late stage.

The paper will discuss the design process of these small multi functional cultural house, based on examples from recent designs in Finland.
