Project challenges

To supply the basic knowledge on casting and solidification required for foundries as well as for the metal suppliers.

To describe and quantify mechanisms leading to undesirable variations in the castings.

To improve the predictability and process understanding by extensively use and critical evaluation of casting simulation tools.

To optimise alloys and process conditions with respect to high-pressure diecasting.

Key words

Basic mechanisms controlling melt quality, castability, solidification, and properties.

Predictive tools for solidification microstructures and mechanical properties (e.g. ductility and fatigue properties) of light metal castings.

Dedicated casting simulations and focused case studies.

Experimental facilities including a low-pressure casting station for controlled mould filling, die and casting temperatures

... the simulation contributing to Mr Sandberg's success!
