Hyperloop

SINTEF Hyperloop: Capsules floating in air-tight pipelines at superspeed.

Contact persons

Hyperloop is a special form of high-speed pipeline transport of passengers and goods. The system is based on magnetic levitation where the transport capsules move in a pipe system with low air pressure at near vacuum.

The concept of an hyperloop is at an early stage, however the development of the hyperloop is progressing rapidly, and a full-scale test facility is at present operating in Las Vegas, USA.

SINTEF is looking into the possibilities of transporting goods in a hyperloop. Technologies from a great variety of fields are highly relevant and transferable to the hyperloop. SINTEFs strength as a cross disciplinary research institute is valuable at this early stage, as it gives us a broad scientific and realistic overview of the challenges and opportunities ahead.
