Human Factors
The importance of human behaviour to safe and reliable operations is widely accepted. Research in recent years has demonstrated the importance of organisational factors on human reliability.

Our competence in this area is based on two decades of work, covering

  • Occupational safety
  • Major accidents
  • Analysis of human reliability related to specific systems (e.g., railways, offshore process safety systems)
  • Method development
  • Development of work procedures
  • Evaluation of human-machine interfaces
  • Organisational factors
  • Safety culture
  • Human Reliability improvement programs

It is our philosophy to draw on the expertise of other SINTEF/NTNU units as well as external experts whenever this will benefit the quality of our work. We see it as essential to work in close co-operation with the people at the "sharp end" (operators, pilots etc.) as well their line managers.
