Experience Data and Data Analysis
By experience data we mean all information and knowledge about historical events and processes within industrial activities that can be described by data, structured information and/or qualitative descriptions.

SINTEF supplies profitable solutions for the industry on the collection, analysis and application of experience data. We are also engaged in international standardization work on the collection of field data for the offshore industry.

Applications

  • Reliability and availability
  • Maintenance Safety
  • Knowledge management

Activities

  • Analysis of need for experience data (information/data, collection and analysis methods, application)
  • Specification of recommended data (type, format, population, distribution)
  • Tools/methods for data collection (manual, computerised)
  • Project management of data collection projects (planning, organising, execution, quality assurance)
  • Analysis methods and tools (statistical, cause analysis, knowledge based)
  • Application of analysed information (decision support, benchmarking, cost-benefit)

References

One of our main projects in this area is the OREDA project (Offshore Reliability Data) which has been ongoing since early 80-ties. This project comprises world wide collection and analysis of an extensive amount of data on equipment failures for offshore equipment topside and subsea. Further, SINTEF has carried out data collection projects for applications such as helicopters, blowouts, downhole safety valves, well completion equipment etc. Latest projects include methods for collection and reuse of qualitative information by methods such as Data Mining and Case Based Reasoning.
