Oil and gas exploration in increasingly challenging regions requires improved imaging technology and the combination of different geophysical methods. For sub-salt and sub-basalt structure, no individual geophysical method is able to provide sufficient resolution and accuracy. Traditional data combination at the interpretation stage can be biased and inaccurate when based on sub-optimal individual seismic, gravity, magnetic or electromagnetic images.
A new multi-parameter joint inversion technology for more objective data combination at the processing stage is developed. In joint inversion, different data types are fed into an inversion algorithm simultaneously, and images are obtained that consistently explain all the available data. We follow a joint inversion approach that integrates seismic, gravity, magnetic and electromagnetic data while retaining and exploiting the specific advantages of every data type.
