Optimisation of supply reliability within power distribution grids (OPAL)
Dealing with supply reliability in a correct and consistent manner is crucial to achieving optimal management of the energy system. Adequate tools and methods related to construction, operation and maintenance are essential for the evaluation of the effects which different concepts and initiatives have on reliability within the distribution grid.
With the aid of earlier projects we have made significant progress in terms of procuring a database, tools and decision support for this purpose. But there remains much work to do before supply reliability can be dealt with in a standardised and properly thought out manner for all grid levels.
The project will help to obtain new expertise, and new methods and tools designed to optimise supply reliability within power distribution grids and will contribute towards standardisation within this field across the Nordic countries.
The project incorporates 3 modules:
1. Nordic standard for the logging and reporting of errors and power failures
2. Better use of error and power failure statistics (starts in 2003)
3. Further development of methods and tools for calculating supply reliability
