Climate and Energy Systems
Risks, Potential and Adaptation Energy systems, EMPS modelling part
This project plan was a part of the Nordic project: Climate and Energy Systems; Risks, Potential and Adaptation.
The objective of the system analysis part was the following.
- Quantify natural variability of and climate change effects on, renewable resources at different scales in space and time.
- Making detailed analysis of the Nord Pool electricity balance for the near future including information regarding the vulnerability of the system.
- System analysis for the near future will be based on detailed simulations for the Nordic electricity system with the EMPS model for a few specific climate scenarios for a given future stage, e.g. 2020.
The system analysis part is important because it quantifies consequences of possible climatic changes. For the market players, regulators and governments it is important to be aware of possible consequences of climatic changes as early as possible in order to make the correct decisions. These decisions may concern investments in new production, transmission or regulation of the market.
