Cable Technology
A modern high-voltage cable is a high-tech product where materials, design and production methods all contribute to a finished product with high reliability and long life. We participate in R&D projects with material producers, cable manufacturers and end-users in order to improve and further develop existing technology, based on our expertise with both materials and systems.

These projects include studies of ageing performance and the processes leading to ageing in polymer materials under different environmental stresses, combined with long-term testing of materials and complete insulation systems in the laboratory. In cooperation with leading manufacturers and through doctoral programmes, we also participate in the development of new and improved insulation systems for HVDC.

Cables are stored in these water-filled tanks and increased test voltage is used to accelerate ageing. During a total test period of two years, samples are taken in order to evaluate the ageing rate. One result of such tests is that international standards are developed, allowing clients to compare the quality of the products from different suppliers. Both manufacturers and end users participate in these projects to ensure that there is a balanced assessment of test and specification requirements for the finished products.
