Future strategies for European environmental and energy challenges
Meeting the 20 per cent renewable energy target will require massive changes in the European community. In the EU project SUSPLAN research scientists have developed appropriate strategies up to 2050. The results are now to be presented in Brussels, Belgium.
In order to achieve the European growth targets for renewable energy, Europe's energy infrastructure has to be modified. Broader policy-oriented objectives, such as EU targets, are formulated on national and European levels. SUSPLAN bridges this gap by conducting regional case studies to connect regional implementation of energy infrastructures with national or European strategic targets.
The EU project has investigated energy systems in European regions as well as on a trans-national level. It developed appropriate strategies up to 2050 for the large-scale integration of renewable energy sources (RES) beyond current EU targets.
During the 2nd international conference SUSPLAN results for shaping Europe’s future energy infrastructure will be presented and discussed. A major focus will be on strategies for the implementation of renewable energies on a regional and European level. Related issues such as existing barriers and possibilities for increasing acceptance for energy infrastructure projects will also be raised.
