Carcinogenic hexavalent chromium is extensively used for pre-treatment of aluminium before coating and adhesive bonding. The aim is to replace
chromium by environmental friendly alternatives.

Several project has focused on finding cost effective, environmental friendly solutions for the coating industry that easily can be implemented in
existing production lines.

• Best solution is strengthening the aluminium surface oxide
  by anodising (electrochemical)
• Titanium – Zirconium conversion coating is presently
  the most promising chemical alternative
