Particle Processing
Many applications are based on particulate matter which has been made in a grinding and comminution process, with a subsequent particle classification step.

SINTEF has developed techniques- and offer equipment for energy efficient comminution, in combination with high efficiency air classifiers. SINTEF also has long experience with on-line particle size measurements, coupled to process control of grinding and classification circuits.

Detailed schematic of Air Classifier

• Grinding and comminution
(mills: jet, ball, rod, autogenous, air-swept, stirred, nutation)
• Air classification: fine, ultra-fine and de-dusting from laboratory to industrial scale
• Process optimization including on-line particle size process control
• Simulation  and modelling of comminution and classification processes (Fluent, USIM Pac)
• Developing and optimisation of production processes
• Particle characterization (particle size distribution, specific surface area, porosity, density and particle morphology.

Application examples for the air classifier:
• Development of new SiC products
• Optimizing feedstock for aluminium anode production
• Optimizing high purity quartz production
• Improving energy efficiency of grinding processes
