MARINTEK is a partner in the Center for Integrated Operations in the Offshore Oil and Gas Industry – IO-center for short (www.iocenter.no). The IO-center was one of the Centers for Research Based Innovation awarded by the Research Council of Norway in 2006.
The center was initially awarded 5 years (Phase I) with an option for three more years (Phase II) pending an evaluation by the RCN. The evaluation was completed during the spring of 2010 and the IO-center was awarded the optional three years, extending the activities until end of 2014.
During Phase I of the IO-center MARINTEKs focus has been on developing new knowledge in the fields of condition monitoring (CM) and integrated planning (IPL).
Within condition monitoring the work has focused on methods and technologies for non-intrusive inspection of offshore process equipment, specifically emergency shutdown valves (ESD), production separators and heat exchangers. MARINTEK has built laboratory capacity for testing of CM on ESDs and production separators.
During Phase I the project on integrated planning has developed a concept with primary focus on work processes and interaction between planning teams.
In Phase II the focus of MARINTEKs work will be to continue developing the concept and methods of integrated planning through an expansion into logistics, optimization and requirements to ICT tools for decision support. MARINTEK will also be leading a project on system integrity and dynamic risk assessment in maintenance planning and execution, while participating in a SINTEF-lead project on environmental and major accident risk in and IO perspective. The work will be performed in close collaboration with our industry partners through case studies and pilot implementation of methods.
