For more than a decade, MARINTEK has participated actively in the development of different concepts of ocean energy technology; offshore wind as well as tidal and wave technology. MARINTEK has delivered simulation tools, software and verification tests to floating wind turbines, as well as developing technical operations strategies.
We have developed special instrumentation and rigs for testing tidal turbines in waves, and carried out research with great potential for the validation and adaptation of numerical methods and tools for analysing the hydrodynamic characteristics of tidal turbines.
MARINTEK is one of the major R&D institutions involved in the Norwegian Research Centre for Offshore Wind Technology (NOWITECH), and is doing research on condition monitoring of offshore wind-turbines; their instrumentation, data analysis and operating logistics.
