The GEMINI steering committee has nominated the Maritime Logistics research community within MARINTEK and NTNU as GEMINI-center for 2012-2015.
GEMINI-center status is awarded research communities within the SINTEF group and NTNU where there is a close cooperation and an ambition to be internationally excellent together. The goal is to build a larger research community with higher quality than the partners are able to individually, with common strategy processes and an inspiring working partnership as a foundation.
The cooperation between NTNU and MARINTEK within Maritime Logistics has been ongoing for many years already, and the establishment of a GEMINI-center will formalize and strengthen the relationship between the organizations. Since 2000, this common research community has published more than 50 journal papers (mostly with authors from both NTNU and MARINTEK), 7 chapters in technical publications and more than 200 conference presentations. Furthermore, there have been a significant exchange and overlap of personnel between academic positions at NTNU and research positions at MARINTEK. Today, one professor, two post docs and three phd candidates with Martitime Logistics as their field of research have part-time positions at MARINTEK.
Unni Steinsmo (SINTEF president) and Torbjørn Digernes (NTNU Rector) announced the nomination and handed over the diploma to the center management during the SINTEF council meeting on 25th of April 2012.
