MARINTEK conducts applied research projects and verification testing of ocean space technologies for national and international oil companies, shipping companies, industry and public research funding bodies on a broad basis. We operate in an international market, developing new technologies in the fields of floating petroleum production, offshore pipelines, energy from the oceans, vessel development, the shipbuilding and maritime equipment industries, shipping and logistics.
Due to the complexity in some of the projects, these are carried out in close cooperation with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and other departments in SINTEF.
Bigger projects are often organized as Joint Industry Projects (JPIs) where several companies cooperate in solving more generic problems and challenges. Some of the JPIs may also be partly funded by the Research Council of Norway or Innovation Norway.
MARINTEK is active in accomplishing Knowledge-building Projects with User Involvement (KMB) in close cooperation with NTNU. KMB is an instrument in the Research Council of Norway for funding of PhD and Post Doc scholarships. Since the mid-nineties MARINTEK has also been heavily involved in the framework programmes of the European Union.
