Probe head for food quality measurement
Within the food and feed industry there is an increasing awareness that optimised production process control is necessary to maintain a competitive edge. However, a premise for control is process feedback - in this case measured food quality parameters.

Prediktor, a company specialised in optimising industrial processes, suggested serving several measuring points with one spectrometer, the most expensive component, using a fibre multiplexer. For this to be useful it was necessary to make a measurement probe head.

SINTEF designed and tested the probe head. Emphasis was put on making a flexible design to comply with different measurement situations, which could be remotely controlled, and which would supply spectra with high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) under all expected measurement conditions. The probe head is complete with built-in light source and calibration.
