Organizers’ backgrounds

The workshop organizers have a consolidated experience organizing workshops and tutorials (Mobile HCI 02/04, Mobile HCI 03, HCI International 03, HCI 03, Ozchi 03/5, IUI-DADUI 04, Percom 04, NordiChi 04, PerCom’04, AOIR 04/5, UBICOMP 04, Euro mGov 05, ISWC’05, ICCT’05) and will be responsible for facilitating the discussion during the workshop.

Dr. Anxo Cereijo Roibás is Senior Lecturer at the University of Brighton, Visiting Lecturer at Westminster University, at the Politecnico di Milano and the National Institute of Design (India). His expertise resides in the user experience in pervasive communication systems. He has been HCI Manager at the Mobile Internet Services Provider, HiuGO SpA, and User Experience Consultant for Vodafone and since 2000, he has been collaborating with the Nokia Research Center. He has coordinated European funded projects such as the TRAIN-IT, European Union - Canada Program for Cooperation in Higher Education and Training. He has coordinated an ethnographic research addressing the future use of mobile phones as multimedia tools in collaboration with the Vodafone Group Foundation and the British Royal Academic of Engineering.  He is British Telecom Fellow at the BT IT Mobility Research Centre and Executive Committee member of the British HCI Group.

Petter Bae Brandtzæg received the Master's degree in Social Psychology from the Norwegian University of Technical Science in 2000. He joined SINTEF ICT and the Department of Cooperative and Trusted Systems in 2000. He has been project manager in a number of research projects on Human-Computer Interaction issues. His expertise is in analysing user trends and patterns of use in new media, digital literacy and user experience and usability evaluations of ICT systems. Brandtzæg holds more than 20 publications, done a number of talks and more than 100 interviews for Norwegian newspapers, television and radio. The last year he is coordinating a National research project studying use of new communication technologies among youth. He has a central role in a National project adapting user-centred methods and tools for use in the context of e-government  (www.effin.org). He is at present manager for the Human-Computer Interaction group at SINTEF ICT.

Prof. Dr. Veerle Van Rompaey is visiting lecturer at the University of Leuven (Belgium) where she teaches sociological research methodologies. She studied Social Sciences and Communication Science in Leuven. In 2002 she obtained her PhD in Social Sciences from the University of Leuven with a thesis on the implications of Information and Communication Technologies for family life. She is a member of the Leuven School for Mass Communication Research at the University of Leuven and the E-medialab at the Leuven Engineering School. At the University of Leuven she is project leader for the Celtic EnComPAs project. She engages in fundamental research at the crossroads of sociology and technological innovation.

Urpo Tuomela, M.Sc. works for the City of Oulu as a program coordinator for international projects. His primary duties include co-operation with European innovation regions and participation in the strategic development activities for the City of Oulu including knowledge society programs and wireless services for citizens. Before joining in the City of Oulu last year, he worked over 11 years in Nokia Corporation. He has several years experience in team leading, project leading and research management for international research projects, where the research interests varied from context awareness and context aware communication to short range connectivity, wearable technologies and related user interface and interaction designs. He has participated in various publications and organized university and conference workshops and tutorials, and a university course for New Media and Communication (2005-2006).
