Background
Dr. Tor Dokken is Chief Scientist in SINTEF ICT Department of Applied mathematics with a focus on spline technology, isogeometric analysis and the development of novel algorithms related to mathematical representation exploiting the potential of heterogeneous processing units such as GPUs. He has a master degree (Cand Real) in numerical analysis and spline technology from the Department of Informatics at the University of Oslo, and defended his Dr. Philos dissertation Aspects of Intersection Algorithms and Approximation in 1997.
After his master study Dr. Dokken was employed at what is SINTEF in Oslo where he is now Chief Scientist. He has also been department manager during two periods 1988-1992, and 1997-2004.
Since 2003 Dr. Dokken has been Principal Investigator at CMA - Centre of Mathematics for Applications at the University of Oslo. CMA is one of Norway’s centres for excellent research.
Research Interests
- Combining applied algebraic geometry and computer aided geometric design (CAGD). This work is done in the context of the Marie Curie Initial Training Network SAGA, that Dr. Dokken coordinates. From 2001-2005 he coordinated the IST FET Open GAIA-project combining algebraic geometry and CAGD to improve CAD-technology.
- Isogeometric representation and analysis. The work is performed in the funded project Exciting, and the two Norwegian projects ICADA and Isogeometry.
- Geometry processing algorithms on graphical processing units. He was the intitator and manager of the SINTEF GPGPU-project 2004-2008, and the intitator and manager the first year of the SINTEF Hetrogneous Computing Project 2008-2010.
