Research Background

Dr. Tomas Eric Nordlander is a senior research manager and scientist at SINTEF ICT, Optimization. Tomas was born in Sweden, speaks four languages fluently, and has a broad academic background; BSc in Electronic Engineering (University of Trollhättan/Uddevalla), MSc in Management Science with Distinction (De Montfort University), and his Ph.D. thesis was in the field of Artificial Intelligence (University of Aberdeen). Previously he was a research scientist and the Public Relations Coordinator for Cork Constraint Computation Centre.

Industrial Background

Tomas, a former officer in the Swedish military, has an extensive industrial experience in the ICT sector, including senior management positions. He currently is a Member of the Board for two electronics companies, one in Switzerland and one in Germany. In addition, Tomas also has considerable experience as an entrepreneur, starting up and running companies in Sweden, Ireland, and in Germany. 

Research Interests

His research interests are currently focused on applied science; quantitative decision support tools for health care system, promoting the ease of use of constraint programming, logistics, inventory models, scheduling, knowledge management, decision theory, management science, tele- and data-network design, and artificial intelligence in business. He is one of the founding members of COMiHC, an open organisation that focuses on quantitative decision support for planning and management within heath care.
