Background
Dr. Halvor Møll Nilsen has a background from atomic physics. He did a M.Sc. (Cand. Scient.) in physics and a PhD (Dr. Scient.) in atomic physics at the University in Bergen. During his work in atomic physics he worked in the Physics Institute at the University of Bergen, Oxford University, Nordic Institute of Theoretical Physics in Copenhagen and Center of Mathematics for Applications at the University of Oslo. Since he came to SINTEF in 2005 he has worked with CO2 storage issues. Much of this work has been done in the project Mathematical Modeling and Risk Analysis.
Research Interests
His current work is mainly focused on fast simulation of CO2 storage. In this research, streamline methods combined with front tracking methods has been developed. Currently he is involved in developing and applying vertical equlibrium models to CO2 storage applications.
He is also involved in the work on MATLAB Reservoir Simulation Toolbox MRST
