Laboratories

The uniqueness of SINTEF Fisheries and Aquaculture is our multidisciplinary approach and our laboratory facilities. Overall, this makes us Europe's leading technological research group focused on the fisheries and aquaculture sector. In We also have access to the SINTEF Group's combined expertise and facilities when required. Our offices at Brattørkaia in Trondheim, go under the name SINTEF SeaLab.

Laboratories

  • Sealab SSO
Facilities for Surveillance, Simulation and Operation. Flexible ICT laboratories for the aquaculture industry.
  • Flume tank in Hirtshals
Core products are research projects and commercial testing of trawls and trawl doors, but our expertise is also relevant for services in the other branches of marine industries: test of cages for fish farming, testing of sub-sea platforms and pipelines for offshore oil and gas industry, testing of ROV for inspection and monitoring, etc.
  • The Coriolis laboratory
The Coriolis basin has a diameter of five meters and a depth of 57 cm. It has been used to simulate transport- and diffusion properties in ocean currents in the Norwegian fjords, on the Norwegian Continental Shelf and elsewhere. Three independent sources of water with different salinity allows simulation of stratified rotating geophysical flows.
  • Marine wet lab
Marine juvenile technology in a modern pilot plant for start feeding of marine larvae, with associated laboratories for bio-prospecting, research on immune development in new feed and microbiological analyzes.
  • Process lab
This includes a process hotel, where the industry together with the equipment suppliers, can gain access to knowledge on a high level in areas such as process engineering and management, computer and measurement techniques in conjunction with in depth raw material knowledge - to develop and test processes.
