Extinguishing systems

SINTEF NBL offers standard testing, IMO and other, on extinguishing installations like sprinkler and water mist systems, land based, offshore or onboard ship.

SINTEF NBL's test hall, which is one of the largest test halls for its use, is among other things used for extinguishing tests. In the test hall, we can control both wind and temperature conditions, giving us the opportunity to conduct a variety of standardized tests and R&D experiments.

We are accredited for the following standardized extinguishing tests:

  • IMO Res. MSC. 265 (84) Fire test procedures for water mist systems in accommodation, public spaces and service areas on passenger ships.
  • IMO MSC/Circ. 913 Test method for fixed water-based local application fire-fighting systems.
  • IMO MSC/Circ. 1165 Test method for fire testing equivalent water-based fire-extinguishing systems for machinery spaces of category A and cargo pump-rooms.

If you need to conduct tests, either ad hoc tests or tests according to different test standards, please contact us and we will help you plan a course of tests. SINTEF NBL is highly experienced in extinguishing tests and we can therefore offer our clients the confidence they desire when important R&D projects and classification tests are to be carried out.
