SINTEF Energy Research is engaged in research, development work, routine-, type- and field tests for manufacturers, suppliers and users of electrical equipment.

Tests with voltages up to 800 kV AC, 800 kV DC and 2000 kV lightning impulse can be run in our high voltage laboratories. These laboratories are also equipped for making rain, snow, ice, pollution, condensation, salt fog and measuring leakage currents, partial discharges, loss factors etc.

High current and short circuit tests are performed with voltages from 115 V to 697 V and currents with 90 kApeak and 55 kArms can be obtained. The maximum current at 6 kVrms is 2800 A.

Type testing of 115 kV cable accessories according to IEEE Standards 404 and 48 includes wet testing. The cable joint is wrapped in a water-tight envelope and subjected to high voltage and thermal cycling.

From #SINTEFblog:

Expertise

Direct Electric Heating of pipelines (DEH)

Hydrate and wax formation in subsea transport flowlines will cause undesired fluid properties and even blocking of the wellstream, following shutdown and comprehensive repairs.

Earth electrode systems

Earth electrode systems

SINTEF Energy Research has extensive experience in performing measurements and calculations of power frequency and high frequency conditions of electrode systems.

Electrotechnical computation

SINTEF do advanced calculations on electrical components. Our goal is to be our customers' experts in electrical engineering analyses and simulations of high voltage components and systems.

Security of Electricity Supply

Security of Electricity Supply

Tomorrow’s electrical power system must be able to handle greater variations in power and energy flows, as well as the introduction of new smart components and technologies.

Self-healing materials

Self-healing materials

Self-healing electrical insulation materials for high voltage apparatuses are very attractive, especially for new and high-power demand applications when placed in locations which are difficult to access and in harsh environments.

Transformers

Transformers

A power transformer is a complex apparatus with windings, core, tap-changer, bushings etc., designed and manufactured for many years of operation in a power system.
