Solar cells

Our research in Solar cells comprise development of processes for production of high quality single crystal and multi-crystal silicon, thin silicon materials and new materials and concept for solar cells.

Every hour, the earth receives enough energy from the sun to cover our total annual energy usage!

The direct use of solar energy will be a main pillar of a sustainable energy supply system. The technological challenge lies in making solar cells that produce electrical energy to a lower cost.

SINTEF Materials and Chemistry is working with the technological challenges in producing solar cells with:

• Higher efficiency
• Less consumption of material
• Thinner wafers
• Cheaper feedstock
• Building integration
