SINTEF Petroleum Research Drilling and Well
Drilling and well
SINTEF combines theoretical work with laboratory experiments and field experience, and focuses on making results from the work available for operational team, in order to contribute to faster, safer and cheaper drilling and well operations while also caring for the long term integrity of the wells.
Fluid Chemistry Laboratory
The Fluid Chemistry Laboratory is located in Bergen as an integrated part of the Department of Drilling and Well. Our main focus is on rheology, in particular visco-elastic properties of various fluids (drilling fluids, crude oil, cement, emulsions, polymer solutions, etc) and gas saturation at HPHT conditions.
Descramble – logging tool
As partner in the ongoing Horizon 2020 project, SINTEF ICT is developing a High Temperature logging tool for measuring pressure and temperature in super critical geothermal wells.
Advances in sand production quantification
Many of the oil and gas reservoirs are found in weakly consolidated sandstone formations. During production sand grains might be loosened from the formation and follow the hydrocarbons.
Drilling an oil well is not what it used to be. The job needs its own special tools, the dexterity of a pilot, and bundles of experience.
