The upstream oil and gas sector in Norway has developed competitive, high quality products and services in one of the most demanding oil and gas provinces in the world, the Norwegian Continental Shelf. Open Innovation has been a vital ingredient for the highly innovative Norwegian oil and gas sector, and a main task for SINTEF is to contribute to a continued success story in this respect.
Environmentally friendly utilization of oil, natural gas and coal is becoming increasingly important. SINTEF has more than 30 years of experience in research and development of downstream conversion technology gained through long-term co-operation with the industry.
SINTEF’s multi-technology basis has made flow assurance a key subject in many technological areas. Together with our industry partners we develop break-through technology solutions for the production and processing industries, including the oil production, metallurgical, hydrocarbon processing, chemical and petrochemical industries.
We are developing advanced numerical and experimental methods for structural analysis and integrity assessment of risers, umbilicals, power cables and pipelines. Our technology is based on a combination of theoretical knowledge, extensive use of laboratory facilities and cross-disciplinary engineering expertise.
Subsea production, processing and transport of oil and gas requires reliable power supply.In co-operation with oil companies and vendors we are closing the technology gaps related to deep and ultra-deep waters, higher power requirements and longer step-outs.SINTEF possesses extensive facilities for combined high voltage and high pressure testing of equipment and materials.
High Throughput laboratory - Oslo
The High Throughput laboratory can be divided in three main activates: 1) design and construction of high-throughput equipment, 2) parallel synthesis of materials, and 3) parallel screening of materials properties. We provide automated custom made high precisions equipment for a wide range of applications. Development and application of combinatorial and parallel approaches are used to accelerate the research and development of a large number of industrially relevant processes.
Laboratory for screening of catalysts and adsorbents
SINTEF has a large number of various reactors for screening of catalysts and adsorbents. SINTEF has knowledge and experience in designing and building laboratory reactors for a range of industrial processes.
INNO-Drill – Technology platform for research-based innovations in deep geothermal drilling
The main goal of INNO-Drill project is to extend, demonstrate, and make available a research-based technology platform to enable new and significantly more cost effective drilling tools and systems for deep geothermal wells in hard rock formations.
HDwave – High-dimensional statistical modelling of changes in wave climate and implications for maritime infrastructure
The primary objective of HDwave is to improve the knowledge of future wave climate and to assess the impact of future changes on maritime infrastructure.
Nanotechnology for improved performance and lifetime of Direct Riser Tensioners
The main objective of the project is to increase the lifespan of Direct Riser Tensioners (DRT) for oil drilling. By extending the lifespan of these parts, a beneficial direct impact onto profitability and environment would be achieved.
