Secure Societies

ICT is essential for operation of our critical infrastructure and to ensure that services function as expected. Our vision is a society in which all electronic and communication systems can be trusted and in which we can govern access to our personal data..

We are working to enhance our society’s resilience to incidents caused by attacks on, or the failure of, ICT systems. The challenges we face are global and we are working at international level to find ways of building and maintaining secure systems, to identify management and usage control, and to safeguard privacy and network security. Incidents will occur, however, and we are also researching into methods and tools for risk analysis, incident management and system attack responses. The vast range of technical systems surrounding us places major demands on users' attention levels, and this in turn has implications for the safety and security of society as a whole. We observe this in the cases of critical systems such as air traffic control and crisis management. We are developing tools and methods that will help users understand the information provided by ICT systems and train them to make the correct decisions in chaotic situations
