Abstract
This report outlines a general framework for maintenance management of distribution systems assets. The maintenance management process proposed covers both the maintenance activities as well as the triggering conditions for reinvestment analysis. The importance and use of risk assessment in maintenance and reinvestment management is emphasised. The main recommendations can be summarized as follows:• Define company’s objectives regarding maintenance and risk treatment and use this as a basis for maintenance management. • Establish and implement a maintenance management process. • Use risk analysis and assessment throughout the maintenance management process, and especially when:- Categorizing distribution system’s assets.- Establishing maintenance strategies for assets and asset groups. The strategies should include specifications for how maintenance should be performed and what should trigger reinvestment analysis.• Implement continual improvement in maintenance management, through documentation, analysis and implementation of improvement actions. Methods and recommendations for implementation of the proposed maintenance management framework will be detailed in the upcoming technical report ‘A guide to risk based maintenance and reinvestment management’, due Q2 2010.
