Condition assessment of transformers is a major part of this project, as well as techno-economical evaluation of possible actions for maintenance and/or renewal. The project started up in 2014 and will end in 2017, delivering a practical software decision tool to the participating companies.
Relevant topics are diagnostic methods, failure modes, failure consequences and criticality, paper ageing, health index, scoring and weighting, and the importance of design, maintenance and internal and external stresses on transformer lifetime and condition. SINTEF Energy Research has a long track record of research within topics like life expectancy on insulation system, failure modes, and techno-economical evaluations and the project benefits from previous research.
